Structures

Each structure will be a monolithic dome, a monolithic torus, in the case of the residential structures- a combination of the two, or -in the case of the gathering dhome- a combination of domes. We chose this building model because, amongst numerous other reasons, it is nearly disaster proof and incredibly energy efficient. More on monolithic domes at monolithic.org.

Gathering Dhome

Located in the center of the village, this is where we’ll hold our communal meals and community meetings. Houses the village’s private greenhouses.

Residential Dhomes

Private homes of the resident villagers that will surround the gathering dhome, and be surrounded by the Creatorsphere.

Creatorsphere

The ring of domes and tori that will surround the residential dhomes. A collection of studios for arts and engineering, greenhouses, storage, residences, and recreational spaces.

Gateway Galleries

The outermost and largest buildings in the village… regularly open to visitors.

Gathering Dhome

The gathering dhome will be made up of seven domes…

The central, the dining/meeting area for communal meals and community meetings.

Four of the outer domes will be the village’s private greenhouses, each with their own specific climate.

One will be the 24-hour kitchen and meal pick-up area (see “Meals and Meetings” for more information).

And finally, the remaining dome will serve as washrooms and storage.

This structure is also where we’ll maintain our seed vault.

Residential Dhomes

There will be seventy-two residences (which we like to call Dhomes), each of which will feature a common lounge, full kitchen, mudroom with full bath, aquaponics greenhouse, three bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms (featuring incinerating toilets) and generous closets. The bedrooms, bathrooms, and closets will be large enough to share, but you won’t be required to. Homes will run on natural energy, have internet access, utilize greywater plumbing/purification systems, and rainwater collection.

Whilst each artist will have their own private bedroom and bathroom (which they may share if they so wish), they will be required to share the rest of the dhome and its attached greenhouse. Since we are still in the early stages, artists will have the opportunity to select with whom they will share their dhome. This will be done at their own discretion based on interactions with other future villagers. Participation on the discord server will be an opportunity to meet, or even choose, said future dhomemates.

Creatorsphere

The Creatorsphere is a ring of domes and tori that surrounds the residential dhomes, housing all of the art- and engineering-specific structures. These are shared spaces for residents and non-resident artists and engineers to collaborate, teach, and explore their craft. Classes, workshops, and tours will take place here, and some areas will serve as living spaces for animals such as cats, ducks, llamas, goats, and others.

Within the Creatorsphere, 72 structures (36 domes and 36 tori) will be dedicated to various art and engineering spaces, ensuring a balanced environment for creativity and innovation. Certain studios will also be open to scheduled non-resident artists and engineers, allowing for greater community engagement and project diversity. Learn more on the studio access page. Below is a detailed list of the purposes to which these structures will be dedicated.

Gateway Galleries

The Gateway Galleries will be the outermost and largest buildings in the village.

Museum

Will display an assortment of art, created by both resident and non-resident artists during their stay in the village. There will even be a small theatre for viewing short films and listening to music. Much like other museums, it will also feature a gift shop… however, it will only be stocked with items made by village artists or artists promoted by the village.

Aquaponics Café

café: Will be open to residents and visitors to the village. A feature stop on the tour… a lunch from the café will be included in the price of the tour.

Two Large Theatres

One dome, one torus… The torus will feature an outdoor stage in the courtyard. These theatres will be used for public performances to large audiences. A potential source of revenue and publicity for the village.

Big Greenhouse

The village’s largest greenhouse. Will support a variety of fruit trees and large edible fish.

Studio Access

The village will share, with non-resident artists and engineers, access to various art studios and technical spaces.
